COURTHOUSE
CELEBRATES
100 YEARS!
Polk County, Missouri's magnificent courthouse, located in
Bolivar, was finished in 1907.
The Centennial Celebration for the Courthouse was held September
8, 2007
during the Polk County Picnic and Rural School Reunion, held on
the courthouse square.
For the Centennial Event, prints of Gretchen Pulley's original
watercolor painting
of the Courthouse have been prepared and are for sale through the
Polk County
Genealogical Society. The painting of the courthouse includes
the Veteran's Memorial, the
American flag and the flower garden maintained by local 4-H
groups, capturing the
significance of our nation, our county, those who have given
their lives in service, and
our youth, who represent our future.
The signed and matted prints will be 8 inch by 10 inch,
giclee' quality*, using archival
papers and inks with acid-free mats. The prints will be sold for
$25.00. Shipping will be
$10.00. The finished prints will be sleeved and shipped in
large,
padded envelopes.
Gretchen was in the PCGS booth during the Festival to sign the
prints. She is donating
one-half of the price of each print to the Genealogical Society
to help them further
their research and preservation of history.
Gretchen Pulley, a local Bolivar artist, has been painting
professionally for 10 years. She
is represented by a gallery in Springfield, Missouri and an
online gallery. She has received
recognition in local, state and national art competitions. Two of
her paintings have been
juried into Watercolor USA. She is a member of the Polk County
Artists Association and
the Missouri Watercolor Society. Gretchen has presented four solo
art exhibitions.

*Giclee' is a French word which, translated literally, means
"to spray." In the USA (and in its
simplest form) the word Giclee' has come to mean the exact
reproduction of an original artwork
on sophisticated scanning and printing equipment and printed on
acid-free long-lasting paper.
Giclee' reproduction is highly resistant to age,
ultra-violet rays and water. The limited edition
prints of the courthouse are an accurate Giclee' reproduction of
the original watercolor on
archival papers using pigment-based archival inks. Being limited
edition, they are collectible.
When the edition has expired, no more will be available.

Conservator Leslie James, center, holds a small piece of paper
retrieved from a time
capsule removed from the Polk County Courthouse Tuesday. Members
of the Polk
County Genealogical society and county officials were on hand
when the 100-year-old
box was opened and its contents removed. Conservators from the
Missouri State Archives
were in Bolivar to help clean and preserve the items that
included old newspapers, a Bible,
coins and pictures.

*NOTE: The time capsule was made of copper and the top of it
had to be peeled
back as there was no other way to open it.

Congressman Roy Blunt
visits Bolivar
While in Bolivar for the Polk County Picnic and
unveiling of the courthouse time capsule's
contents to the public, Congressman Roy Blunt visited the Polk
County Genealogical Society
Library and visited with some of the members.
