2013 Ornament--North Ward School 2013 This beautiful Limited Edition Christmas tree ornament is the third in a series of ornaments presented by the Polk County Genealogical Society. A new ornament featuring a landmark Polk County building or landmark will be revealed each fall for the upcoming holiday season. The 2013 ornament features the 110-year-old North Ward School, located just north of the downtown Bolivar area at the corner of Main and Locust. The building was built in 1903 and was first the home of Bolivar High School until 1917. It was used as a school for elementary-age children living in Bolivar's North Ward until 1965. The building stood empty for several years and then it was purchased and donated to the Historical Society of Polk County. It now houses the Polk County Museum, which opened in 1982. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. The front of the ornament features a black and white picture of the building and the back features the classic Christmas colors of red, green and white with information about the genealogical society. The ornament comes with a beautiful red ribbon. Shipping will be in a padded envelope. |
