PCGS-04-08 Scrapbook of Harry Truman’s Visit to Bolivar 1948 3B-3-7

This scrapbook was purchased for the library by Bob Phillips. It contains newspaper clippings about the visit to Bolivar of President Harry S. Truman and Venezuelan President Gallegos in July 1948. Bolivar was chosen as the city in the US to receive a statue honoring the Venezuelan Simon Bolivar. This event was covered by the press from around the world. Many of the loose articles were from the New York City papers and/or Omaha, Nebraska papers. There are 22 original photos included in the scrapbook. Also in the scrapbook were pictures of which many are unidentified. The scrapbook could have belonged to Thelma Hargis as her name is listed on one of the pages. The scrapbook was taken apart for storage.
